Manchester United Unveil Plans for UK’s Largest 100,000-Seater Stadium

স্টেডিয়াম

Manchester United have announced ambitious plans to build a new £2 billion, 100,000-seater stadium, making it the largest football ground in the UK. The "iconic" world-class venue will be constructed near Old Trafford and is expected to be completed within five years.

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe described the project as a "once-in-a-generation opportunity" to build the world’s greatest football stadium. The club reached this decision after extensive consultations about whether to redevelop Old Trafford or construct a new stadium.

A Futuristic Stadium Design

Renowned architects Foster and Partners will design the stadium, featuring a vast umbrella structure that will harvest energy and rainwater, while also covering a public plaza twice the size of Trafalgar Square.

"This is one of the most exciting projects in world football," said Lord Norman Foster, executive chairman of the firm. "The design prioritizes the fans' experience, bringing them closer to the pitch while amplifying the atmosphere inside the stadium."

A Massive Regeneration Project

The stadium will be the centerpiece of a major regeneration project in the Old Trafford area, which the UK government has already backed. The initiative aims to:

  • Create 92,000 new jobs
  • Build 17,000 homes
  • Attract 1.8 million additional visitors annually
  • Contribute £7.3 billion per year to the UK economy

Chancellor Rachel Reeves has pledged government support, comparing the scale of the project to the transformation of Stratford before the 2012 London Olympics.

Funding and Old Trafford’s Future

Despite carrying £1 billion in debt, Manchester United has not yet revealed how they plan to finance the stadium. While the future of Old Trafford remains unclear, sources indicate that downsizing it for United’s women’s and youth teams would not be cost-effective.

Support and Controversy

While moving away from Old Trafford, United’s home since 1910, may be controversial, Sir Alex Ferguson has voiced his support.

"Manchester United should always strive for the best, both on and off the pitch," Ferguson said. "Old Trafford holds many great memories, but we must be brave and build a stadium fit for the future."

Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham also welcomed the plan, stating:
"If we get this right, the impact could be bigger and better than London 2012. Manchester United should have the best football stadium in the world—one that stays true to the club’s traditions and remains affordable for all fans."

With plans now officially in motion, Manchester United is set to embark on one of the biggest stadium projects in football history.
